ChatGPT Series - Episode 3

About the Article

In continuation to the ChatGPT series, I am writing this article today on the topic - Is ChatGPT/Bard is a threat to Product Managers? Meanwhile, I would also propose you all readers to read my previous articles which were part of ChatGPT series and there links are:

Introduction

Based on conversation with various product people in the enterprise organizations as well as reference to many WhatsApp group conversation, I have had observed that few product people are sightly worried with the disruption coming after having ChatGPT and/or BARD as generative AI coming in the working space.

As part of the series, in this article, I tried to gather maximum inputs from generative AI ChatGPT and Bard so that it may create a visualisation and realization to the product management people.

What would be the possible limitations of ChatGPT / Bard?

Here are some of the limitations of ChatGPT and Bard that could prevent them from replacing product managers:

  • They are not always accurate. ChatGPT and Bard can sometimes make mistakes, especially when they are asked to generate new information. This means that product managers still need to be able to fact-check the information that they generate.

  • They do not have the same level of understanding as humans. ChatGPT and Bard do not have the same level of understanding of the world as humans. This means that they may not be able to grasp the nuances of a product or the needs of a customer.

  • They are not creative. ChatGPT and Bard are not creative in the same way that humans are. This means that they may not be able to come up with truly innovative product ideas.

To test this, I have had used few prompts in Bard and ChatGPT to see what response comes:

After getting input from Bard / ChatGPT, I tried to perform more prompt and did some more search with the prompt about the limitations of generative AI:

Image 4 - Limitations of Generative AI - ChatGPT / Bard

Eventually, Bard had recommended how to utilise ChatGPT Generative AI as a valuable tool:

Image 5 - bard recommended how to utilise ChatGPT

Meanwhile, I have used few prompts to know about "how product managers can use generative AI as ChatGPT / Bard in their organization" and received response from Bard and ChatGPT below:

image 7 - how product managers can use chatgpt / bard in their organization [ChatGPT]

Having reading to this, I have had tried various prompts to see what response does it give and how I can use those informations as a product manager:

Scenario 1 - how product managers can use chatgpt / bard in their organisation

Image 8 - how a product manager can use chatgpt / bard from customer support area

Eventually, based on my experience, I believe, a product manager can leverage ChatGPT /Bard in customer support areas as below:

  • to create an interactive and participative chatbot that can answer common customer questions. This would free up human customer support representatives to focus on more complex inquiries

  • to analyze customer feedback from social media to identify trends and pain points. This information could then be used to improve the product or the customer support experience

  • A product manager can use ChatGPT to test a new customer support feature before it is released to the public. This would help to identify any potential problems with the feature and make sure that it is ready for use

  • A product manager could use Bard to generate ideas for new customer support features or initiatives. This could help to improve the customer support experience and make it more efficient

I thought to perform few prompts as testing in both Bard and ChatGPT, to see and experience what kind of details a generative AI LLM can share, you will find few prompts below:

Scenario 2 - being a product manager for bharatpe what would be my roadmap for financial user experience

Image 9 - Bard - being a product manager for bharatpe what would be my roadmap for financial user experience

Eventually, I tried with the prompt in ChatGPT with a generic query - being a product manager what would be my roadmap and found that inputs received in ChatGPT LLM is more generic in comparison to the Bard as in the above image.

Scenario 3 - I had used a prompt using a customer review [-ve] and tried to know about Persona of the user

image 11 - prompt using customer [-ve] review and what would be the persona in ChatGPT AI

Eventually, I tried using same prompt in Bard and found it comparatively more illustrative and thoughtful response in comparison to ChatGPT

Scenario 4 - I had used same a prompt using a customer review [-ve] and tried to know about Persona of the user in BARD AI

Scenario 5 - I had used same a prompt using a customer review [-ve] and tried to know about pain-gain of this kind of user in ChatGPT

Scenario 6 - I had used same a prompt using a customer review [-ve] and tried to know about pain-gain of this kind of user in BARD AI

Conclusion

  • Product managers can work closely with generative AI and LLM models to validate and refine their outputs, get strategic guidance, and ensure alignment with business objectives and customer needs. By leveraging the strengths of both AI and human expertise, product managers can make better-informed decisions and drive successful outcomes.

  • Instead of viewing generative AI as a threat, it is more productive to see it as a tool that can enhance product management practices when used appropriately and in conjunction with human skills. By understanding the capabilities and limitations of generative AI models, product managers can effectively leverage them to augment their work and focus on higher-value activities.

  • Additionally, be mindful of ethical considerations and ensure the AI model adheres to privacy guidelines, avoids bias, and provides transparent and understandable responses to users.

In addition to these specific benefits, ChatGPT / Bard can also help product managers in a number of other ways, such as:

  • Improving communication: ChatGPT / Bard can be used to improve communication with stakeholders by providing clear and concise explanations of complex ideas.

  • Making better decisions: ChatGPT / Bard can be used to make better decisions by providing insights into customer behavior and market trends.

  • Increasing creativity: ChatGPT / Bard can be used to increase creativity by providing new ideas and perspectives.
